The method is simple. I use Kew accepted Latin names, USDA 2023 zones, and the winter low for a city, not a nursery tag from a milder coast. If a palm cannot take that number, it stays off the outdoor list. Wrapping a tropical does not make it an outdoor plant.

I garden for palms that can live where they are not supposed to, and I say no when the box store is selling a coconut for a freeze climate. How far north a palm can live is the same winter-low test.
